The Doll Story
Um... so it was like this: I saw a ballet variation somewhere where a girl danced exactly like a doll! And I wanted to do that too. Only, back then I still didn’t like ballet. So it turned into a modern dance routine.
Well, only half a routine.
I’ll explain why in the next post. Or maybe I’ll do it now.
Well, the thing is, when I choreograph something, I usually only feel like doing half of it. Then I just give up and improvise because I can’t be bothered to think up any more moves.
Actually, I still haven’t recorded a whole routine. It’s always either improv or half a routine.
I found a wonderful song.
Andy from Toy Story came to mind right away. At first, actually, I was creating this with Toy Story in mind, not Doll Story. But if I’d called it Toy Story, everyone (like me) would have thought of the Pixar movie.
I think the outfit is perfectly doll-like. I don’t wear dresses, so that was out of the question.
My dad was the cameraman, of course.
Oops! I forgot the funniest part. Somewhere in the middle of the routine, when I was already improvising, I went into the tent, and when I came out, I nearly fell over. Then I managed to cover it up by deliberately putting enough force into a roll to knock the tent over. I was rolling over the tent, after all.
Dad said afterward that you couldn’t see it anyway. But the part where I rolled onto the tent came out really great.
